Welcome to Istanbul, Turkey.
Istanbul is the most populous city in Turkey and forms the cultural as well as the financial hub. It bridges Europe and Asia and hence hosts the best of both worlds. Jamie Manalili is here to show us around this city and its beautiful Islamic culture.

Places to Visit

  • Sulemaniye Mosque

The Süleymaniye Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul and is one of the largest and most important mosques in Turkey. The Süleymaniye Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Süleyman I, also known as Süleyman the Magnificent, the greatest and richest of all Ottoman sultans.

  • The Grand Bazaar

The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and alleys and over 4000 shops presenting unique Turkish antiquities and delicacies of the city.

  • Galata Tower

Just as the name suggests, the Galata Tower is situated in the Galata region of Istanbul. The tower is not just high, but it also has a cone cap. It dominates the local skyline from pretty much any direction you look at it. It is a medieval structure erected hundreds of years ago. Also, it is entirely made of stone.

  • Blue Mosque

The Sultan Ahmet Mosque, popularly known as the Blue Mosque, was completed in 1617 just prior to the untimely death of its then 27-year old eponymous patron, Sultan Ahmet I. The mosque dominates Istanbul’s majestic skyline with its elegant composition of ascending domes and six slender soaring minarets. The mosque is mystically covered in painted tiles and ancient architecture.

  • Bosphorous

One of the world's most strategic waterways, Bosphorus is a natural strait between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. It is lined with palaces, ruins, villages, and gardens, this is one of the most beautiful stretches of scenery in Turkey.
